How Speed Reading Helped Me and How it Can Help You

By Karn Patel

I have been through many rough situations that I have gotten through thanks to being able to speed read.

This one event occurred during my time at high school.

It was mid term week and I had one midterm left to tackle, English. Now I did not have much of a problem with english before but this was different. In this one semester we had a lot of reading assignments that I had not done. If it was anyone else in this situation they would have been paying for it.

I was lucky that a year before I had learned how to speed read through a program I had found online. The program, at this point, is not relevant. What is relevant is that I had read about a days worth of text within eight hours.

I needed to read a couple chapters of The Pigman and Animal Farm. Also, I needed to read about 15 other shorts stories and memorize all of the characters, events, and morals. This was not an easy feat but I had done it.

If you do not already know, speed reading allows you to do exactly what you think, read fast. It is done by changing the way that you normally read. The basic way that most people read is that they look at the word and they make the sound, even silently, then after that, they process the word. Speed reading allows you to skip the slow part of sounding out the word and just process each word as you see it.

Obviously speed reading is way more efficient and helpful compared to the normal standard way of reading.

Speed reading can be of great benefit to you because there are just so many implications for it. You can learn anything you want fast, you can do school assignments fast, you can even go through an entire book, fast.
